Air Canada's action is due to gov policy "due to rising COVID-19 cases" January 31 through April 30. West Jet's action is Due To Omicron And Staff Shortages to Jan. 31. It doesn't seem like they are related but who knows, its more difficult for traveler's either way. | -------------------Re: Air Canada to cancel flights to Puerto Vallarta

Interesting, thanks David. I'm a little out of touch on current events in Canada, do you all still have to do the 14 day quarantine upon arrival, vaxxed to the max and recently PCR tested to leave or return? I am guessing this means the Canadian gov is going to give Air Canada some sort of compensation for enacting this policy, and that (like last time) the other airlines will pick up the slack? Gotta admit it seems like the end result of that policy has minimal impact I am assuming the hatred toward travelers (that there was last year around this time) won't happen again, or am I just uninformed? | -------------------Re: Air Canada to cancel flights to Puerto Vallarta

It seems the trouble with this wave is that it is spreading so rapidly. If many workers get sick at once, it causes problems with minimum crew requirements. In the case of the Canadian federal government, perhaps they are looking at modelling and trying to discourage spring breakers? | -------------------Re: Air Canada to cancel flights to Puerto Vallarta

There is a difference between testing positive and being sick. | -------------------Re: Air Canada to cancel flights to Puerto Vallarta

I believe if you did deeper you'll find this article was from 2021 not now. | -------------------Re: Air Canada to cancel flights to Puerto Vallarta

It was suggested to me that I say why I believe this is from last year. There are two reasons. One is if you google "Air Canada cancelled flights" you'll see the same or similar article that clearly say 2021... Flights will be suspended from January 31, 2021 through April 30, 2021 to the following destinations: Cayo Coco, Cancun, Liberia, Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Varadero, Puerto Vallarta, Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Kingston, Mexico City, Nassau, Providenciales, San Jose, and Panama And two... if you go to the Air Canada Website right now you can book flights and there is nothing saying anything about cancellations. Not saying we shouldn't be vigilant (we definitely should) but it's easy to mistake older information that doesn't apply right now. | -------------------Re: Air Canada to cancel flights to Puerto Vallarta

Hi: I thought the same thing. Nowhere does it mention Omicron, nor staff shortages. It sounded to me very much like last year's article. I have emailed the reporter, but be careful of how you "quote" information and please don't add your own take on things without identifying this is your take. I read this article that David posted and I immediately looked at CBC news. There's nothing there about any flights being cancelled. Then I looked on the front page of the paper this article was on, and it has nothing about cancellation of any flights. I came to my conclusion on my own but I will update you if I hear back from the reporter. Vicki (and Robin) | -------------------I stand corrected...sort of

The article was posted this year. I was very surprised. However, it specifies just these airports: Suspended destinations include Antigua, Aruba, Samaná, Curaçao, Exuma, Grenada, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, Bermuda, Grand Cayman, Havana, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Martin/Sint Maarten, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Nothing in Mexico is mentioned. Neither is WestJet. The article was posted on January 5, 2022. https://vacations.aircanada.com/en/travel-advisories Shades of last year, for sure, but this was just Air Canada Vacations, which I assume is their charter service?
