Tick on me

Buen dia. I found a tick on me a few wks ago. Sorta panicked, as id had a tick bite before and got Lyme Disease, a very serious disease almost impossible to get rid of. Got Very ill. Went through months of treatment. Went to a specialist in Vallarta who treats Lyme Disease. Not cheap. Now its dormant. So when i found this tick on me here, folk told me to go to la Dra. I did. She put alcohol in it and removed it with tweezers. However, now weeks later, there is still something there, under the skin. Its either the head or some eggs. Still red, a typical red circle around it and it itches badly. I dont scratch it. Now i feel i need to go to a Dr who is familiar with ticks and this whole thing. Ive been told by locals to go to a dr in Melaque, Cihuatlan, Manzanillo. One thing i do know is it needs to be someone familiar with and trained in this. Not just any good dr is. (Ive had many tell me to get someone burn it off with a cigarette! They were serious). Anyone know who may be the right person to go to? Ill travel if needed. After my serious illness before, i dont want to dink around with this. Thanks for any help. (Just no snake drs, please) 🌿Ann | -------------------Re: Tick on me

It sounds like the head of the tick was left in your skin. The cigarette thing is not to burn the tick but make it hot enough that the tick will back out of the skin not leaving the head behind. Tick pulling is not a good idea. | -------------------Re: Tick on me

Thanks for answering. Youre right i know. The problem is the tick was pulled out already and the head must remain inside me 😢 So i need a dr to open it and remove the head. Got a ref from a friend who lives in Mzo. May go there if no suggestions for a closer option. No quejas on my part. I know a place on the beach where i always stay 👏. Itd be fun to go for a couple days and dip in the mar there: with help 😉 Still, if anyone knows someone closer who can help, im game. 💃🏻 🌿🌿 | -------------------Re: Tick on me

I had the same thing happen to me while in La Manz a couple of years ago. Same symptoms. I recommend getting the "head" out because as in my case, it got worse. Dr. Gabby should be able to help. | -------------------Re: Tick on me

This is a good topic because several people I know this time of year have come across ticks. I have had a lot of ticks on me over the years. Hiking through tall grass and working with horses in the spring is a great way to be exposed. I agree that it sounds like the head of the tick got left beneath your skin. In the future you may want to try slathering the tick with a layer of Vaseline. The idea is that the tick may back out on its own accord. And using heat can sometimes work. Again, the idea is to have to the tick back out on its own. Heat-wise I think a better idea would to be use a hot nail held by a pair of pliers. I have had better luck with Vaseline. When I did pull with tweezers, I made sure I did so very slowly until I could feel the tick open up it’s mandibles and let go. I am not a medical doctor — this is only my opinion. Ticks are like many other bloodsucking parasites / vectors like mosquitoes, and may carry many more diseases and just Lyme disease. It may make sense to try and have the head removed. But at this point in time, any pathogen may have had time to enter your bloodstream. I think the critical thing is to watch out for any rashes or feelings that don't do seem normal. If that is the case then quickly consult or go to the doctor. | -------------------tick removal

12 years into living with lyme, consistently working with professionals to find a path to health, I'd like to clarify best practice for tick removal: Tweezers, grab insect as close to skin as possible and then quickly pull it straight out. Any other action, such as heating OR suffocating the tick will cause the insect to regurgitate and increase chances of causing infection. This technique is easy to find online. In the US they are even selling these little plastic tick removal tools that are similar, but actually better than tweezers. Also once I had been infected, then all future bites were problematic for up to 6 months. In spite of tick being removed, the site remained itchy, red, swollen and clearly infected.

Not sure what the tick will do in this case, but I have always used a match, blown out and then applied to the back of the tick. It backs out quickly. | -------------------
