Recycling

Could someone summarize the recycling that is happening in town this year. I realize from other posts that glass cannot be recycled, but otherwise.... Are there pickups or do I need to bring it somewhere, (such as that area behind the elementary school)? Is plastic, metal and paper generally acceptable to recycle? What are the exceptions, if any? Thanks for any info!

My understanding this year is that we do not have recycling behind the kinder anymore, residents did not respect the system and it’s now just a garbage dump. Please don’t add anymore to it. There was talk of another site off the main road into town but am not sure it that’s happening. Would like to know myself. I’m feeling like we’ve gone backwards with this, but then my opinion is meaningless as I’m not doing anything about the current situation except putting everything in the garbage again. Lisa did a fine thing for our pueblo starting up the site but I can hardly blame her for getting burned out trying to manage it. | -------------------Re: Recycling

That's depressing to hear, but I get that its a lot to manage and a thankless job in general. I'll use the collection bins in town for plastic and hope that that there is some pickup system for those. | -------------------Re: Recycling

There are large wire containers in the shapes of crocodiles, fish, and/or hearts all over town for plastic recycling. Also plastic bottle caps, which generate donations to a separate cause. I guess we will have to see about the acceptability of paper and tin sometime in the future, i.e., mañana. | -------------------Re: Recycling

One of those bins (in the vicinity of Otra Vez and the bookstore) seems to be marked for metal, like tin cans etc. | -------------------Re: Recycling

Hmmm. I've always taken my plastic bottles to the big fish and my bottle caps to the little fish, but I've never seen a container for metal. Perhaps Stefania will edify us. | -------------------Re: Recycling

Thanks everyone for the recycling information. Can batteries (AA’s, AAA’s) be recycled anywhere? | -------------------Re: Recycling

If you have a container, dedicated to plastic, it can be out on the street with your other garbage that is collected. I have a plastic bin, clearly marked for plastic, that I out out when full and is always emptied by Caesar and crew. | -------------------Re: Recycling

There seems to be a Mexican gentleman who collects tin cans. He is on the right side of the road of Perula just past the turn going up hill that is Rufino Toamayo. Though maybe someone can confirm as I would hate to be dropping cans there if he didn't want them. | -------------------Re: Recycling

You can leave aluminum cans just about anywhere, someone will take them. Worth money at recycling place. | -------------------Re: Recycling

Yes, Javier and Maria collect all kinds of metals. So you can drop them there. They will be recycled. | -------------------
