Unity and pride were shown in force this weekend. Please check out the Tierralegre Facebook page for pictures in the coming days from BasuraSHION at Magnolia's and today for the Community Clean up
BasuraSHION was a sold out event with 71 attendees as well as parents and younger siblings to celebrate 6 models and designers from the Secondary School. Thanks to the generous support of Alex and the team at Magnolia's for making this possible. Thank you to all who attended. We're all very excited for version 2.0 next season!
Total we raised nearly $24,000 leaving us only 15,000 more to hit our goal. This will give the project the resources to properly support Antonio as he manages the garden between now at October.
Stay tuned on the facebook page as we will post our budget proposal which will include tools needed, the remaining hose and water infrastructure for the platanos and piñas, youth employment stipends to assist Antonio in June and July, as well as the end of the year party we throw annually for the secondary students.
Community Clean up Huge shout out to Myranda, Vicki, and Lisa for pulling everything together for today. We had 19 adult volunteers including teachers and 27 young people aged 5 to 15 who participated. Incredible show of force!
Photos coming!
Please join us, bring your ideas, and enthusiasm for a more beautiful and healthy La Manzanilla on Saturday 24 for another clean up day. Stay tuned and get involved!
Over the coming weeks, I'll be meeting with as many folks and collecting as many ideas for next year. Please contact me to give me you $0.02.
My plan is to distill the youth surveys, items from the open community meeting and items from my meetings with partners, school staff, etc into one concise report showing our impact this year and our goals for next year.
Abrazos a todos!
Seguimos!

Thanks to Helping Hands Bookstore and Stephanie, El Huerto Escolar is closer to raising the total funds needed to support Antonio's full time role as Garden Manager through the month of September 2018.
We will be posting our upcoming budget on our facebook page once reviewed and approved by the Executive Director for 2018-2019.
Thanks to generous individuals such as Stephanie, Robin & Peter Walford, Alex Mayberry & Magnolia's, and so many others we are able to sustain the project until next season.
Under Antonio's leadership, we are excited to foster and grow a more self-sufficient, community-based, youth-led organization. With our first harvest of plantains and piñas in October and our planting schedule and crop selection, we believe we'll be in a very different place as an organization in one year. All thanks to the incredible support from all parts of this magical community.
Over the next month, we will be trying to raise $10,000 MXP for a total of $44,000 to finish our 3 infrastructure projects, support Antonio's full time work and employ youth in the summer to help him maintain the land (which is a LOT of work when we're all not here).
I'm happy to announce (more coming soon) that we have been awarded a final year of funding from the International Community Foundation which will be used strategically October 2018 through 2019 to position this project to have the most impact in the lives of the youth in La Manzanilla.
Please consider making an end of the season donation to help maintain our progress through the summer.
Donations in Mexico and the United States are tax deductible.
Gracias!!!
Miguel
