android issues

My Moto phone has a few flashing icons on the top of the screen, and a flashing message that says 'corrupted SD card'. It seems to be working OK otherwise. Alberto couldn't figure it out, and Felipe is not around - can anyone help me with this? I can come and meet you somewhere. | -----------------Re: android issues

My Moto G sometimes complains about its SD card not working. I tried all kinds of tricks even powering down and physically ejecting it in case it had dirty contacts.i still occasionally got the message I have both photos and a few seldom used apps loaded on the card. Since SD cards are slower than your phone’s internal memory your system software might be seeing an app that is slow to start and messaging inaccurately. There is a built in utility that the curious can use to explore the card. Mine is full of the remnants of apps I have removed and my pictures. Since it is a Google phone your photos are scattered among system memory the SD card trash and the Google cloud. Offloading unused apps so you aren’t running short of memory would be a good start to eliminating the message. Making sure photos are backed up also seems to help. Explore your phone settings. Restart the phone if you make any changes so if something no longer works you will remember the change that caused the issue. Since your phone seems to be working according to your observations chaulk it up to over cautious programming if your memory headroom is OK and your photos are being backed up. | -----------------Re: android issues

WOW! Andrew, I think I asked the right person. Thanks so much for all this info - I could follow most of it, and will try your suggestions. Someone else replied directly, and suggested I just take the card out; it was put in as a tentative solution to something else, and it wasn't actually needed, so will try that. Also, all my photos are stored in Google, in the cloud, so I'll keep emptying them from my phone. I love uncluttering whenever I can, so will keep that principle in mind, too - yes, get rid of apps I dont use, etc. LOVE this message board. Thank you, Daniel. | -----------------Re: android issues

If you are not planning to take out your SD card to load the photos off it there is a formatting option that accommodates that use. You should be able to see how yours is formatted. Yours is probably formatted non removable which is best for your circumstances. Explore the card using the utility that appears under memory. You should also be able to find a folder called DCIM. It is used by Gallery the Motorola native app. If you find the DCIM folder on the SD card this is normal. Without the card the phone must use internal memory to shuttle photos to the cloud. Photos is the app that takes care of the Cloud storage. It helps to keep the app up to date not only for features but also for bug fixes. Gallery is only updated with the System software. It is useful to keep photos on the card to get them out of the fixed memory when you can’t keep up with the stream to the cloud. Also handy for viewing when not connected. Photos arbitrates how the images are found depending on whether they have been uploaded or are still in memory or on the card. Most SD cards have huge capacity and are cheap storage. | -----------------Re: android issues

Hi Andrew, thanks for this further information. Guess I better wait before I just think of abandoning the SD card. When are you and Dianne coming this year? I remember when you came over to help me understand the water system in my place here. I really appreciated your help!

We fly New Years eve and spend a couple of days in PV before bus trip to Melaque. Look for us January 03 and after. What is working will often complain and keep working in older Android phones. | -----------------get an Iphone

Many times updates take all of the memory, and cannot any longer keep with with the demands. How old is your phone> Have you done an update lately? If you have eventually the older phone's processor will no longer be able to keep up and no longer function, good luck. Hopefully that is not the case...

I have great news, Dean! (Oh, and it's quite a new phone) Felipe helped me - he just took out the SD card, and it stopped flashing and using up all its power trying to search for something. So I think I'm OK with the phone now... But let's talk about the internet. It's so slow, I can hardly do anything. Youtube videos keep stopping and starting, Skype and Facetime are dismal, and this is after Moises from Telmex was here and gave me a new modem. Last spring was the same thing. I called Telmex frequently, and they always gave me a new work order #, then finally someone came and did some work on the lines in the neighborhood, and all was supposed to be good, but if it was then, it sure hasn't held. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I'll be in town next week. If you are still having internet issues I'd be happy to drop by and check your system out. | -----------------Re: Carol, how OLD is your phone
