Brave souls on the garbage truck crew collect and deliver garbage to the landfill from households, businesses, and public wastes cans year-round. It is physically hard and dangerous labor. They are truly valiant, underpaid and overworked, especially during Christmas, Easter and school holidays.
I understand La Huerta pays an extremely modest sum to only 2 crew members and they and the other workers rely on tips. The truck driver collects and distributes tips to the crew.
La Huerta pays another person to deliver dumpsters to the landfill. I assume his pay is also marginal. I think he also deserves tips, especially from households and businesses who deposit their wastes in dumpsters.
Speaking of wastes:
An individual deployed 5 or 10 public waste cans in Los Ingenios circa 2017.
La Manzanilla Hermosa deployed 50 public waste cans in La Manzanilla in 2019 and will add 60 more in 2020 in two batches. We hope to deploy the first 30 cans within 3 months. Timing depends on a truck driver's next seasonal produce run from La Manzanilla to Guadalajara (he is able to return loaded with cans). We will also touch up paint on existing cans this year.
Many volunteers remove litter from our beach and streets.
Thanks to many, I think the streets, beach, and Bahía de Tenacatita are more plastic-free each year.
Less is more.
Respectfully,
