News from the Four Seasons project!
Posted by Stephanie on March 29, 2020, 10:12 am
Had to get out for a drive today and when going through town noticed really the only folks out were Tamarindo workers and some young boys! After playing with my dog on the beach, I meandered through the hood out by me and drove by this happy young man talking on his phone with this just infectious smile! We waved, I drove by and whipped the car in reverse and approached him with some questions! It was obvious he works there as he was sitting across from a large house that has about 16 workers! His name is Marcos, from Michoacán, and is a “ayudante general” on the project! I think maybe 25 years old...and very friendly! I asked what was up with Semana Santa vacations....his reply! There will not be one and they will work straight through! Those that have left for various reasons will not be allowed back in. And this comes from the main foreman on the project! He did not seem to be too dismayed and said better to stay in place than travel out and return! He was most forthcoming and look forward when we can have another talk to see what else is going on there! Oh, he also mentioned that they mostly cook at their residences because of the expense of eating out! And the beach was quiet........

That was very interesting information, Stephanie. Thanks for asking them, and getting it straight from the workers. I sent this message to Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Latinoamerica (from their Facebook page) on Messenger: Mar. 28 "A 4 seasons resort is being built near Tamirindo, Jalisco. The men are being trucked through our village, La Manzanilla. They are crowded into the backs of trucks with no possibility for physical distancing. This is very dangerous now during the pandemic. Please respond with what changes you are going to make. If you are not the person in charge, please tell me who I should contact. Thank you." Here is their reply from today, Mar. 30: Hello Carol, we appreciate your comment, in Four Seasons we are very carefull of following all necessary sanitary measures for care and protection of our staff and everyone around us. We don't currently have a property operating there, but will try to share your valuable comment to someone on the corresponding area. Thanks and be safe! I guess since it is not built yet, they don't take responsibility. So where do we go from here? I will thank them for the note, and ask who it is in the corresponding area that they are going to talk to. But this is urgent. Merely taking temperatures is not enough, as some carriers or younger infected people don't show symptoms. Any other ideas out there? | ----------------Re: 4 Seasons project

Good job Carol! Maybe the next email from you would be to ask whom you would contact who currently has a property there. (using their own words). Maybe they would give you an answer! | ----------------Re: 4 Seasons project

The Four Season Group is only the operator and will accept responsibility only when the project is completed, in this particular project, there is a developer group consisting of a Mexican and America partnership, a general contracting engineering group, many sub contractors (doing finishing work) and a whole list of suppliers. Your comments should be directed to the company whose logo is on the doors of the trucks hauling the guys in and out. On large and complex sites/projects such as this, there is a set pecking order as to who is in charge and whose is responsible for site safety and security, usually it falls to the general contractor. | ----------------Re: 4 Seasons project

Thanks, Mary Jo and Erin, I did ask them to reply tomorrow with that information, and copy me on the message. Are you saying, Erin, that someone needs to talk to each individual sub contractor, or is there one main Jeffe who would take responsibility? Maybe the Minister of Health should be informed, and that person would get the measures enforced. | ----------------Re: 4 Seasons project

I would suggest the truck load of guys which number in the hundreds are most likely with the general contractor, the subcontractors are usually in the smaller trucks with their own guys, I have followed several of them when in town (a glass contractor and a granite counter contractor); if you approach the GC he will lay down the law to everyone on the site (at least that is the way it works in Canada), the GC is the site coordinator of all site activities. | ----------------
