Pretty much the same but post must have a first name AND initial of last name to stay on the board. So be advised if you don't follow that guideline your post will be deleted.
There are lots of new people we don't all know, I am looking for a way to both find out who they are and to get them to introduce themselves to the board when first posting.
Log ago I fought a two year war getting people who don't live in La Manzanilla to use their local board. Now that the email address is no longer permitted (privacy regulations) I am looking for a way to weed out some of the outsiders who think we care about their opinion.
The message board is for the people of La Manzanilla, I personally don't care if there is only one post per week as long as it is from someone we know and is relevant to La Manzanilla or Mexico.
Sorry for the little burn out, I will be all right as soon as the swelling goes down

I think that this is a difficult issue. Firstly, how to define the "residents or people of La Manzanilla". These might include: Mexican citizens who live in LM, full-time property owners, seasonal property owners, seasonal renters, vacationers (up to a month stay).
Then there are those who visit/stay in LM once in a while.
A hard one would be those who have to visit LM but are looking for information in order to decide whether or not to come.
Well, good luck trying to monitor that.
I think the idea of introducing oneself when first using the MB is likely the easiest to monitor. Asking new participants who fail to do this to contact the moderator and blocking them if they fail to do this is a reasonable practice, in my opinion. I think it reasonable for first time users to give their last name on their first post as well.
Other issues are hard to resolve - number of times one can post over a specified period of time, using abusive language, attacking other people, being off topic, making unsubstantiated claims, etc.
Daniel has a tough job as moderator in doing all this - for a free service. Sometimes we all just need to cut him some slack.
Thanks for your commitment Daniel.

Thanks for the reply Larry.
"Firstly, how to define the "residents or people of La Manzanilla". These might include: Mexican citizens who live in LM, full-time property owners, seasonal property owners,
All included.
"seasonal renters, vacationers (up to a month stay). Then there are those who visit/stay in LM once in a while".
Also included but they should go easy on the number of post and on the opinions ....i.e. balance.
"A hard one would be those who have to visit LM but are looking for information in order to decide whether or not to come".
As in the past there is no problem with those post.
"Other issues are hard to resolve - number of times one can post over a specified period of time",
There is no set number, if you get into a discussion with someone it may involve lots of post in a row. If one were to voice their opinion on every topic they might get a frownie from the Mod and would probebly not get invited to very many parties. It doesn't seem to be a problem unless it is being done by someone we don't know.
"using abusive language, attacking other people",
As in the past it is frowned upon, having to take responsibility for the post takes care of most of that. If its too much it will be deleted and the poster notified so a dialog / cooling down can take place, and the post hopefully modified or ? I get emails from people when someone is really out of line so I don't have to read every post.
"being off topic",
Off topic happens. hopefully not more than a post or two, main red flag is political stuff. I don't have to moderate that much.
"making unsubstantiated claims, etc. "
We went through quite a bit of that as the COVID drama started. Its something we work on together as a community, as are all the guidelines. I can't do it alone, I need the cooperation and help of everyone.
Thanks for the post Larry, I may include the top part in the guidelines to help out those who are hesitant to post.

Mod D
Great responses to the constantly changing situations on this message board. We appreciate all you do to keep it up and running, so that we (current residents and visitors) are all informed of the happenings in town and the surrounding area.
We are hoping to return to our favourite sunny 'home away from home', if the Covid issues up here in Canada and there in Mexico calm down after the Christmas and New Years rush. Looking at the flight possibilities in early February and thinking positively! We hope everyone down there stays safe and well.
We miss the people, atmosphere and beauty of La Manzanilla. In the meantime I will have to sip my "T" at sunset up here in the snow while dreaming I am somewhere along that glorious, warm beach!
Salud
