The rocks appear every year, and are always due to a hurricane, but normally further off shore and later in the year.
Summary of the year so far
Page with resources
Somewhere in there is a map showing the tracks of the past hurricanes, too lazy at the moment to search for it (Brett would be all over it back in the day).
The only thing of note for me (living right on the beach the past 13 or so years) was the rapid change in sea level, from pretty much normal to coming through the office windows in about a 40 minute (or less) time span. Note: I am time challenged i.e. it caught me with my panties down
To reiterate. That hurricane (only a category 1) was very close to shore, and when the energy from it rounded the south corner of the bay and came directly at us shit happened really quick, there was nothing gradual about it.
