Keeping birds from nesting on your roof

Hello. Looking for suggestions on how to keep pigeons from nesting and hanging out on roofs. We have always put wire mesh along the areas where they like to sit, but that is time consuming and has to be redone every few years. Have heard that plastic owls work. If you recommend a plastic owl, where would you get one nearby? Any suggestions are appreciated. | -----------------------Re: Keeping birds from nesting on your roof

Good luck with that. We had persistent pigeon problems for years. The only thing that ever worked was having strong mesh put up where they always landed. We tried decoys, windy sun catchers, etc. Our handyman said the church tried owls once and the pigeons landed on them. | -----------------------Re: Keeping birds from nesting on your roof

2 local women have painted birds on walls in 3 locations around town. They have kept the problem pigeons and swallows away from patios and walls. I'm not sure whether this works on palapas. They charge 200 pesos per bird as long as they can reach a good place. Call me to arrange a time to meet. 9073158520. I have photos. | -----------------------Re: Keeping birds from nesting on your roof

Having fought the pigeon wars for several years now, we have found that the only thing that works is to make sure there is nowhere for them to roost. For us this has meant netting on the inside of the palapa under the “spokes” at the top, and chicken wire around the outside. The chicken wire met with limited success . Last Saturday we put up bird spikes, which I ordered from Mx Amazon, around the edge of the roof and on a window ledge where they roosted through the night. . So far we have had none stay overnight, and I think only one or two have persisted in landing on the roof or the palapa for a short period of time.....I am tentatively calling that a win,....for now..... | -----------------------Re: Keeping birds from nesting on your roof

Perhaps better to have pigeons in your palapa than bats in your belfry???? (Sorry, I couldn't resist :0) | ----------------------- |
