Volunteers to Revive the Middle School Garden Project
Posted by Brandon Lloyd on February 15, 2021, 11:13 am
The Middle School Garden Project has been abandoned during the pandemic. Cows, chickens and others have helped themselves to the plants. We need to build a fence around the garden to preserve our efforts. In the past, students have planted, cared for, harvested and sold produce to raise money for their education and learn about organic gardening practices. On Saturday, February 20th at 5:00pm (17:00hr) we welcome all volunteers to come and help clear vegetation from where the fence will be built. Bring your charged body and swing into action with tools from our tool shed. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing (long pants, long sleeved shirts, gloves, etc.) and bring some water. Location: The garden access is located at the end of a side street, north of the main street (Av. Lazaro Cardenas) from the highway. Coming from the beach look for a faded sign/banner about 1 3/4 blocks beyond the Escuela Secundaria. It is at the north end of unmarked Calle Mariposa. That’s an ambitious project! It will be wonderful to see a new fence and a gate that works. I’m not sure I’ll be helping to clear the area, but will pay a local strong person to help. Also, I have a long sleeved, hooded mosquito jacket to lend to whoever can use it. It’s very thin, kind of a mesh fabric. | -----------------------Re: Volunteers to Revive the Middle School Garden Project

Volunteers are encouraged to bring & share any surplus produce from their home gardens. We expect to have lots of star fruit aka carambolos. | -----------------------Re: Volunteers to Revive the Middle School Garden Project

If those that will benefit from the garden (middle-schoolers), would donate their time, they could learn a lot about gardening. | -----------------------Re: Volunteers to Revive the Middle School Garden Project

Today’s the day! Many hands make light work. And it will be fun. There are tools at the garden, but if you have a favourite type of shovel or machete, etc., bring it along. I’ll bring some agua de carambola, and will pick up some snacks with a donation given to me by Penny and Carmen. See you there! | -----------------------
