Going home to Canada, Covid Test, adventure In cancellation

Hi: We are home in Canada now. We missed having a mandatory 3 day stay in a motel. (Starts on Feb. 22) Our Covid test was accepted although we were late getting to the border due to snow cancellations. The test in Melaque went smoothly and was delivered when they said. We got a paper copy which was handy but not necessary. *************************************************************** For interest's sake, we were delayed by two days and had to stay in 3 different hotels, and paid for a 4th because we missed being in Seattle that night. We flew out of Manzanillo on schedule. We landed in LA and then the nightmare began. They postponed the flight from about 7:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. At 10:00 I saw the pilots leaving, and at 11:00 they announced the flight was cancelled. They said they'd arrange for a motel and to go and wait in the Ground Transportation area, and they'd email us. They never did. 5 hotels later (we had an angel of a driver but it was Valentine's day so hotels were full) we wound up in the stinky-smelling Motel 6. Slept for 3 hours and back to the airport. Delayed again, just enough to miss our Seattle connection. Flew to Seattle. Another overnight. Then on to Vancouver, where the flight to Vancouver Island was full, so we finally flew home the next morning. A 2-day flight took 4 days and a lot of money. Is there a lesson? Don't fly if it's going to snow? No, not really. I just thought those of you still in La Manz would get a kick out of it! | -----------------------Re: Going home to Canada, Covid Test, adventure In cancellation

Whoa, that sounds nuts! Was that the Alaska Air flight out of ZLO that connects in LAX? AlaskaAir all the way? | -----------------------Re: Going home to Canada, Covid Test, adventure In cancellation

Can you imagine what it would have been like after the 22nd? I'm glad that you made it home. . . and the snow is gone! | -----------------------Re: Going home to Canada, Covid Test, adventure In cancellation

Yes, Air Alaska to Vancouver and Pacific Coastal Air to Comox, which was the best flight of all of them! | -----------------------Re: Going home to Canada, Covid Test, adventure In cancellation

Thank you for reporting out, Vicki, nobody deserves such travel woes... plus snow to boot! Last season in covid times, Alaska cancelled almost every one of their late night SEA to YVR flights requiring an overnight stay ... looks like not much has changed...So glad you are safe at home now. Enjoy the spring blossoms! | -----------------------If I had to do it all again...

Hi: I just want to add that the time we spent in La Manzanilla was worth all the problems. If I had it to do all over again, I'd have stayed until April. Hindsight! Staying in La Manzanilla and following the Covid 19 protocols, I feel, kept me safer than being in Canada, mostly due to the fact that almost everything is outdoors, which is much safer. Again, this is just my opinion. Vicki | -----------------------
