Help clear a path so a fence can be built around the Middle School Garden to preserve the efforts. In the past, students have planted, cared for, harvested and sold produce to raise money for their education and learn about organic gardening practices. Tomorrow, Thursday, February 25th at 4:30pm volunteers are welcome to come and help clear vegetation from where the fence will be built. A few tools are available but if you have any cutting tools like loppers, pruning shears, pruning saws or machetes please bring them. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing (long pants, long sleeved shirts, gloves, etc.) and bring some water.
Location: The garden access is located at the end of a side street, north of the main street (Av. Lazaro Cardenas) from the highway. Coming from the beach look for a faded sign/banner about 1 3/4 blocks beyond the Escuela Secundaria. It is at the north end of unmarked Calle Mariposa. (19.2893395, -104.7851572)

Remember- Today at 4:30pm you can help with a first step to bring back the Middle School Garden Project to its former glory. They grew peanuts 🥜, pineapple 🍍, passion fruit, peppers 🌶 and so much more. Check out some photos on Facebook.
This is a good chance to meet some of the young people who have moved here from different parts of Mexico, and who are concerned about bringing back ecological practices. Has anyone else noticed the changes in the demographics lately?
Thanks for the link to the Facebook photos, Brandon. It brings back memories of good times!
How did the work party go? I didn’t stay till the end. Are you planning another work day?
I heard that, even though there are some tools there, pruners were needed to cut through vines, etc. I have a new pair I would lend for the next session, if they are needed. Just let me know.
Quite a bit of progress was made clearing brush at the last volunteer work event. The plan is to meet again this coming Thursday at the same time - 4:30pm. Volunteers worked for about an hour. Thank you Carol for sharing the carambolos/star fruit with the volunteers.
