There is a reason why so many do not use this board as a means of communication any longer! They may read it, many do not bother I am told, but it has become a place of attacks more than of sharing information that can be informative as well as vital to those of us living here, whether full or part time. Rather than have contentious blather or skirt the issue entirely, would it not be better to use it as the forum it set out to be…shared information to aid and inform others? Perhaps some residents would then come back and post on a regular basis, their thoughts and ideas without fear of ridicule and nasty retorts! IMHO! This message is locked.

Let me say a few words here This message board is for the people of La Manzanilla to post information about La Manzanilla. If someone from La Manzanilla finds information from another source that they feel the people of La Manzanilla should be aware of they can quote that source via copy paste and ideally link to it. Give credit where credit is due and validate your sources. Its a pretty firm guideline but there are a couple of people who are not from La Manzanilla who are allowed to post, one is ElkeG (who is always relevant) and Monte (kind of grandfathered in). The guideline is not meant to be rude or dismissive, its meant to keep the post to a minimum so the board is easier to read. But if you need it to be put in other terms, if your not from La Manz your opinion is basically not welcome. This message board was originally set up to be a place to share information in emergencies and other important information. It is ok that is strays from that original design, but not to the point where information relevant to La Manzanilla gets buried in a pile of irrelevant threads. In a sense less is more, a quick check should be able to do it. This message board won't be all things to everyone, some may desire more information and others less. Its a board with a specific design, its not meant to be an all encompassing source of information about the entire area unless someone from La Manzanilla feels it necessary to share. Its good, very good, that there are other sources like Facebook and Tomzap as they reduce the clutter on the board and make it easier for those seeking relevant information about La Manzanilla to find it. There, I have said basically the same thing over and over three times, just like what happens in real life conversations. Sorry if I stepped on any toes. This message is locked.

Particularly during these stressful times there is a real danger in being insular, but you have made it clear "outsiders are not welcome". Outsiders can be helpful and your community may expect help during difficult times..even during climate change driven emergencies or earthquake or tsunami, both are real possibilities... you will cry for help. Indeed, this unwelcome outsider donated to a La Manz fundraiser a while back... it won't happen again. I have a new (beach) cam and was thinking of offering it to your community.. I don't think so now. I am considering posting your missive on TomZap as a warning to others (except of course Elke or Monte) to stay clear of your community (forum)... the implication to me is that the unwashed from over the hill need not darken the doorstep of La Manzanilla. (of course I will use quotes and give credit to the author) Maybe too you and your insular little group should look to La Huerta or Tomatlan for your social services... instead of over the hill...Cihuatlan is busy serving "locals"... Back when this message board was first started the aim of all message boards was to get as many people they could to use their board. I wanted something different, a board just for La Manzanilla and it was a literal 3 year war of heavy moderating until others complied. Also back in those days the Tomzap board was particularly brutal in the way the users treated each other, I am quite sure that is the reason that the board got log in to post, I never have understood the log in to read but that is the policy of the moderator. Most don't understand what moderating a message board is like, without a good set of guidelines and a pretty heavy hand it gets everything from nasty to stupid silly real quick. Its definitely not a job for someone who needs the approval and acceptance of others. Most everyone agrees the moderator is the asshole and that helps them to get along with each other better. I love our LM Message Board because its format is so easy to get through and I appreciate the Moderator's effort to keep it untangled and readable. I have a fit trying to get through LM Life and have not tried TomZap, which I will now just to see if it is useful. However, IMHO, we are living in the time of Covid-19, a very dangerous time for some as well as different for many. We need information, as well expressed by Stephanie. Many of us travel to Melaque, Cihuatlan and beyond. We are not isolated and the Delta variant is here. We have family and friends coming in to visit. Knowing the Covid activity in the area is crucial for well-being and decision making. Having more, and perhaps too much for some, information about the bug in our vicinity doesn't hurt but may be helpful and needed. Moderator, because of the Covid circumstance we are experiencing, I vote for allowing surrounding area covid information on this Board for the time being. You know this bug has not happened before. I trust your judgment for appropriateness and hope that the need is short-lived. Then we can go back, I hope, to Before-Covid time. Since we all seem to need to get our two-cents worth in--I don't think learning about someone who died in our community--like Martha--is unimportant. I am part of the La Manzanilla Life page and the Costalegra/COVID group on FB, but they didn't tell me about Martha. I would have felt terrible if I hadn't had a chance to offer condolences to the family. Also, if I had been at the restaurant recently, I'd surely want to know about it. Are there others in the restaurant who have come down with the disease? That's not morbid or dirty laundry. It would give those exposed people a chance to be informed. And to imply that COVID is with us into the future seems both morbid and cynical. If we could continue to convince people to get vaccinated, we have a chance to kill this thing. So far, Cihuatlan has been the main source for vaccinations. Wouldn't it be good to know if there is going to be another clinic there, and to see if anyone is organizing a car pool over there that the people without transportation could use? I know the message board isn't widely used by the Mexican community, but people like Valerie, like Stephanie, like Cruz can use that info to share with people and to organize. Sticking your head in the sand isn't going to help anybody. IMHO This message is locked.

I have put the very very simple instructions below on this message board numerous times but you refuse to learn. Here are some instructions on how to link, its really easy At the top of every web page, Facebook page etc. is the address bar. The address (URL) starts with https:// or https://, if you click on it it will burn blue, you right click and select copy. My dear Moderator, I love ya too, but you threw me for a loop there insinuating that morbid curiosity was a motivational force in seeking more data. But, the loop only lasted for a second. I regained my composure from a disbelieving angry reaction after thinking that I saw where you were coming from. The way that I see it, you and I are viewing Covid-19 from different angles. I'm not saying that both angles aren't needed. Just that they are different. Your perspective comes from sitting as you gather and disseminate information, ideas, and entertainment while at the same time attempting to keep this board on the straight and narrow. It's a demanding job and I think that you mostly do all of it quite well and that people are not complaining that Covid-19 has not been covered enough. I'm coming from being out here trying to get people vaccinated. Before going north, I searched for and took LM people to get vaccinated and was successful with some. But there were eight residents that said they were not interested. Even Don Everardo said no because he thought people were being killed instead of being helped. He implored me not to get vaccinated because I would be dead in six if not in two months. When I asked where he had gotten such an idea, Everardo said someone had visited him and told him so. I was also told by others that the 'government' was trying to control us and about other conspiracies. I respected everyone's position and didn't push. To each his own I thought and I went ahead and got vaxed. That was then. Now with different information from the States about a mutated virus, Delta, that is infecting and needlessly killing countless people, including youngsters, because they don't get vaccinated, I am pushing. And I push because if enough people don't get vaccinated, I, personally, am going to be dealing with a virus that my present vaccination doesn't/can't control. Yes, this gets personal. So when I see a younger, strong and vital person needlessly die, I am going to use that instance to convince residents and friends to vaccinate. I really don't need names, but in this case, it helps. Yes, I got back and immediately took three gentlemen, including Don Everardo, to get vaccinated in La Huerta. This time it didn't take much persuasion to get them there. Neighbors and friends dying around them were convincing enough. I focused on these three because of their vulnerabilities, age, and underlying conditions, knowing that the Sinovac vaccine doesn't cover the Delta variant. I was told that people should get the vaccine that is available and not procrastinate. So now we anxiously wait for more data and information. Then we will act accordingly. So, mi amigo, morbid curiosity is not the catalyst, but interest in my and my neighbors' health is. I know you invite and like dialogue and it's appreciated now that it is off my chest. It is a rhetorical question that is much like asking "What do you make of the rain?" during the rainy season. If the government and the citizenry pretty much ignore a deadly pandemic for a year and a half, eventually lots of people will get sick and some of them will die. If instead you had asked, "Does anyone have factual information about the Covid situation in Cihuatlan, or where can I find it?" I think the replies would have been much different and presumably much more valuable. This message is locked.
