Women's Memoir Writing Workshop
Posted by Lynne on January 19, 2022, 10:46 pm
For: Any fully vaccinated (2 or 3 shots), English-speaking woman aged 30 or older Where: Bahia Azul restaurant, second floor When: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday—February 8, 10, and 12—from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost: $600 pesos, payable in cash on the first day Number of participants: minimum of five, maximum of seven Please bring: a notebook for taking notes and writing short exercises, a folder for handouts, a pen or pencil for writing, plus a colored pen or pencil for making comments. (Constructive comments are welcome, but criticism is prohibited.) Of course, you can write your story on a computer; however, in class, you need to write comments and exercises by hand. Facilitator: Lynne Willard, La Manzanilla full-time resident, says: I’ve been working in the “World of Words” my entire adult life and will gladly send you my CV, as well as the first few chapters of my own memoir, if you express interest in the workshop. As a journalist and feature writer in the States, I wrote countless articles and essays; more recently, my work was published in International Living Magazine and Chicken Soup for the Soul. Currently, I specialize in editing translations from other languages to English, ESL documents (written by non-native English speakers), and memoir—a category that fell into my lap when friends like Julie Catton began to recommend me, and then the word-of-mouth culture took over. I have now edited so many memoirs and done so much research that I feel prepared to help any other woman who wants to write about a slice of her own life story. The workshop is designed to be fun, interactive, and non-judgmental. Although some participants might want to write an autobiography—her entire life story—we will focus on completing either a prologue or the first chapter of whichever book you want to write, as well as an outline of successive chapters. Normally, a memoir covers a shorter time frame, from a few memorable days to a period of many years; its length can be anywhere from 19,000 to 70,000 words. Some women will only want to write a story for herself and/or her children; for those who want to publish, I will give you a complete guide to the process at the conclusion of the workshop. You would be under no pressure whatsoever to hire me as your editor! If you are interested in attending, please contact me at lfwedit@gmail.com no later than February 1. We will communicate via email so that I can send everyone documents as attachments prior to the workshop. I will also notify you if the workshop is canceled (due to a lack of participants), if the workshop is full, or if enough women have signed up that a second workshop is warranted the following week.

Hello Lynne, I wish you well with your memoir workshop. Usually I am in LM for the winter and would be thrilled to attend. I am now in Ontario...BRRR. I published my first novel in 2021. So far it is doing quite well with excellent reviews. The second book of the series is now well underway, and am looking for an editor. The name of my novel is BEYOND MORTAL, STEWARDS OF GAIA. You can look it up on amazon, and check it out if you are interested. Please let me know if you would like to communicate about editing or just reading. | -------------------Re: Women's Memoir Writing Workshop

I feel your cold! I am also from the Snow Belt, on the US side of Lake Erie, but spent most of my teenage summers in Ontario. (Thus, I can pass as a Canadian, if need be. And of course I can edit Canadian English.) Could you please send your email address to mine so that we can communicate privately? Mine is lfwedit@gmail.com. I should have some free time to get back to you tonight. Thanks! | -------------------Re: Women's Memoir Writing Workshop

Hi Lynn, Love what your doing. I am in La Manz and would love your workshop, it’s the dates I am concerned about. We are planing a road trip in Feb. and I am not yet sure of the dates. Please keep me informed as I would be elated to join you. As you know I have such a story to tell. | -------------------Re: Women's Memoir Writing Workshop

Sandie! Still at sea? I know you have a story to tell! Since I can't change the dates, I'll post here if the woekshop is full or if the number of "registrations" warrants a second class the following week. (I have too much work the first and last weeks of every month to add a workshop to my load.) If you know your travel plans by February 1, please send an email to lfwedit@gmail.com Thanks so much for your interest. | -------------------
