Heartbroken……..

We have been coming to la manzanilla for a long long time…….we have a lot of merchant and restaurant friends we are not rich but we participate in many fondations. We love and respect our mexican friends we receive at home when they can come to canada. I have know mexican life for 40 years, i love the crowing of the roosters the dogs barking, the village wich comes alive on saturday evenings and during the week of rodeo. This morning l’m heartbroken because i haven’t slept for 2 days…….i live in the moutains and i’ve tried everything, close the windows and doors put plugs but that doesn’t work,my bed is shaking under the booms of music that has been playing all night……..it’s 7.30am and it’s not over……..If they are people from the village i understand very well ………but if they are tourists i do not understand and i wonder if this is the kind of place that people from the manzanilla want…….i tell you again my heartbroken because we are seriously thinking of settling elsewhere………. I will talk to my mexicain friends about it to see what they think……..i’m waiting for the music stop to go to bed……..lol! Have a nice day! | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

Las Cabanas just turned down their music at around 8:30am. At least they mostly party on Saturday night. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

I don’t know about Las Cabañas, but there was a huge party down the beach last night…looked like it was around where El Gabacho restaurant is. Very loud music with laser lights, all night long. Unfortunately, it’s the season for parties, and the Rodeo hasn’t even started yet. Get ready- earplugs and CBD oil | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

up all night wishing the booming melodies would cease …….. in my state of restlessness and lack of sleep, there was a moment when I wanted to join to feel young again ……. and yet, I closed the window instead …….my husband Mark, a raver in the 80’s, didn’t particularly care for the selection of ballads either ……… next time there’s a party, we can only hope that the disc jockey will know a thing or two about Real Music | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

"my husband Mark, a raver in the 80’s" Wow, who would have guessed? Perhaps a card with years w stereotype / hobby / professions would be of use? Something you could scan upon meeting a person. In this case it would be... Raver eh ..... start conversation | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

I think that this idea would be fun. Maybe the women could wear charm bracelets instead? Mine would dangle with items representing my jockette years, before I broke a finger. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

Cathy posted, "next time there’s a party, we can only hope that the disc jockey will know a thing or two about Real Music' Sounds like statements made by parents about Rock and Roll in the sixties.

Possibly a curfew for loud music in all venues, say 2am or so. I myself live above the north part of the village and awoke multiple times to hear the droning of the repetitious base beat from down the beach. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

My place is north of the cemetery. The music last night was much farther down the beach than Gabacho's. My customers also heard the base thumping all night. My experience is Mexican celebrations go to 6 in the morning. Weddings, birthdays, quincineras all go late. The music for the rodeo used to go until 6 in the morning at the casino. Loud music until the wee hours or even sunrise are a Mexican custom. Plapa Joe's is for the gringos and normally is over at 10 or so. Las Cabanas is for the locals and they start at 11 pm until 6 am. As irritating as it is, it is normal for Mexican fiestas. As La Manzanilla has grown so to has the demand for celebrations in La Manzanilla. Eddie | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

A couple of weeks ago I walked down the beach maybe 2/3 of the way to the end and there were 4 people outside a row of bungalows that had been blasting the music all night long with two enormous speakers on the sand directed towards the bay which acts as a huge amplifier! As I type I can hear it again...getting old and cranky i guess! | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

Our guest rode her bike down the beach to check on the source of the loud bass sounds, which has continued all day today. There is a huge speaker system set up on the beach just past El Gabacho on the lot with a bunch of palapa cabañas. She said there were only 4 or 5 people there. In the past, that has been our experience too: there’s sometimes only the DJ there, blasting the noise out into the bay, no one else around… | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

| -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

A suggestion: If one can learn to sleep on their back, noise canceling headphones by Portwest, i.e., the type used when on a table saw or loud industrial machine, can block out an amazing amount of sound. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

How can someone (you Mokita) who has written some of the most beautiful post I have ever read on the message board say something as mean and shallow as that? I'll listen to the other Mokita any day. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

So relieved to read this discussion. We rent right in the middle of town, where traffic and mopeds can get quite noisy. But we were astonished when nearby partiers kept the bass thumping going till 4am recently, in the middle of the week. Our Mexican neighbors were just as troubled! It is good to know that there are different expectations for fiestas here. At home, there is a noise ordinance in effect. But we do not expect things to be the same here…so close our windows and “practice patience,” always a challenge in another country. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

My dear departed husband always said that "Mexicans endure," but they always thanked me when I politely asked neighboring partiers to turn down their music volume after 2:00 a.m. This was when I lived in a house without glass windows, which proved to be a very good reason for my request. Everybody else just wanted to sleep, but they didn't have the nerve to say anything. | -------------------Heartbroken……..

Thank you for your kind words. As for aggressif comments i think you have not understand the essence of my message and i’ts ok. I live in a tourist village myself, skiing place, and i know what it’s like to be invaded several months a year. My reflection is one of benevolence to wards the people of La Manzanilla whom i love and respect, have a wonderful day. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

That is a cruel and unnecessary comment, Mokita. I live the other half of my life NO2Bs, in a tourist city. Much as I lament the influx of tourists during the season, I must acknowledge that Victoria BC would collapse without the tourist $$$$. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..

You can buy earplugs at the local farmacia. We used to live on the beach just one block from the casino. We would close every thing up when the fiesta dances were happening. Still had restless sleep. Ear plugs helped. There were times when tourists(mostly Mexicans) would bring some sort of boom box thing that has really high volume and they would blast that thing all day and night just a few feet from our door. We would politely ask them to "bajar el volumen, por favor". They might turn it down or not but right after turn up again. They were having fun and dancing. Who can blame them, it's their holiday. Onetime, there was was an x-cop staying upstairs, where they had no protection from the music. He said he'd like to "shoot that damn box". We got more tolerant and realized that this too will pass, sometime....but there will be another and another. Mexico is loud! There is always something, roosters, dogs, traffic, gas truck, parties...... If you want to visit or live in Mexico, you have to accept all of it and adjust. This is Mexico and it is rich with life... and noises. | -------------------Re: Heartbroken……..
