TROPICAL STORM ENRIQUE

This is posted at 9:30 pm Friday I first heard of Enrique around 12 pm today, I didn't think much of it until I got back to the office and checked the NOAA Hurricane center and saw the projected path, which is just to the west of us. I'm not much of a worrier, 5 minutes at a time is the motto I strive for. But quite suddenly I found myself projecting into the future to Monday and wondering what preparations I should be pondering, considering that I live right on the beach and such an event can have serious repercussions. It reminded me of the worry box. The worry box varies in size from person to person but its always full. When something like Hurricane Enrique comes along some of the things I may have worried about get pushed out of the worry box by Enrique. Once Enrique has passed they return to fill the void and keep the box full. Its a way of describing something called prevelance induced concept change which is fun to ponder, but not as preferred as say tonight's sunset and quick rain storm.

.... you are correct Daniel, never 'worry' bit always be aware, not only of your surroundings but of what's happening on your surroundings. Especially With the weather as things can change fast. https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/sat/satlooper.php?region=epac&product=ir ... this is real time and up to date and I wouldn't dismiss this this should it decide take a little jog to the left. | -----------------------Re: TROPICAL STORM ENRIQUE

That Hurricane tracker on my post is hot linked, meaning it will update automatically. Looking at it this morning it has jogged to the left giving us a bit more space. I don't know if it is because this is the second storm in as many weeks or because I am getting older or more cautious or..... but I have noticed it distract me more than usual. BTW Tropical tid bits (or any weather loop) is not real time, it is usually off by an hour or more. Check the UTC at the top, we are - 5 hours from that. NOAA has a special storm floater for serious hurricanes that is updated more often, but its not available for Enrique at the moment https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/floaters-old.html

Please don’t take the situation lightly. The hurricane may have moved slightly to the west of us but we will still be pounded by waves of unrelenting rain. Plan for flooding and road closures. After having been in 10 hurricanes in my life, leading disaster relief in the Yasawa Islands, I know what it’s like to be a flood refugee and washed away in a river.. This is not to scare you but to make you realize you still have time to take some precautions. Please please check on your neighbors especially if they are elderly. If you need advice from a seasoned hand feel free to contact me at 322-332-8249 on WhatsApp, text or phone. Hunker down and be prepared to lose Internet and electricity… Make sure you have candles or torches with batteries. Enjoy the ride. Please remember that most injuries during hurricanes come from flying debris because people are outside being curious or hubris or being heroes. I tried to stop being the latter. Or people think it can’t happen to them. We lost 14 people in one district in 2016. The hospital was overwhelmed. Based on current data it may start raining heavily in two hours and hurricane force winds sometime tonight. Good luck We love this community and how everyone pulled together last year. It’s most important not to panic but rather to check on each other. Blessings to you all... Felipe Philipmirkin@hotmail.com | -----------------------Upgraded to cat 1

Ok, something new for me. I went to Windy and selected waves then did a screen record as it progressed from now till Monday. (full screen is best). Hurricanes spin counter clockwise, which means that the storm surge comes from the back end of the storm. Watch the Wave height indicator (which is over La Manzanilla) as it progresses hitting a peak of 4.6 meters Sunday around 2 pm as the back end of the storm passes us.
Then I did the same for wind and as you can see the wind never gets above 26 mph, the storm just misses us.
So it looks like we jumped the shark once again. Mind you that this is based on the current prediction and that things may change, especially when it comes to rain, that is harder to predict as the bands may or may not come over us. As of this moment, no wind, no rain pretty much a regular evening in La Manzanilla. | ----------------------- Great news so far…

Pretty impressive breakers out there. I can see them from my rooftop. Are they coming onto the beach up to the houses?

Waves are battering up against the restaurant walls here at the “south end”! Fridges being carried out and ferried away in pickups. Though nobody seems too phased, they have my greatest respect ! | -----------------------Extreme Heat

In Vancouver temperatures are reaching 46 degrees C. (115 F degrees in US). Tomorrow will be worse. These are hottest temperatures in recorded history. Climate change deniers may be changing their mantra. | -----------------------
