Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"
Posted by Lynne on September 8, 2021, 1:03 pm
While Canadians heading north are having a vaccination document translated, I and other Americans are still confused. We were issued no "papers" after the second vaccine in Cihuatlan, just a half-sheet of paper in green and white with the info about our second dose handwritten on it; this paper includes no info about the first dose, as we had to hand in the record of our first dose when we got the second dose. Then we were told to download and print our official vaccination record when it appeared online a few weeks later on the government’s Covid website. This document is written in both Spanish and English, and it generates a QR code. As an American, I don't need to have anything translated. I'm just trying to figure out what document is considered our "vaccine passport." Thanks to anyone who can un-confuse me.

Bump! Seriously, doesn't anyone know the answer to this question? If you ever need to prove your vaccination status, either in Mexico or abroad, which document would you use? | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

If it's called an official vaccination record and it comes with a QR code, I should think that is your vacc. passport, no? Definitely wouldn't be the piece of paper with handwritten info on your 2nd dose - too easy to forge that. Hopefully there's someone "here" that will eventually confirm this for you. | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

Sorry, Lee. The website I listed earlier is for vaccination registration. The one with the official vaccine certificates is: https://cvcovid.salud.gob.mx/

Lee, the website is mivacuna.salud.gob.mx. Pablo and Bob, thanks for your replies. I got thrown off by the fact that Canadians are having some other vaccination record translated, but I guess that is really none of my business since I'm from Ohio.

I’m not sure if this relates to flying but if it is you will still need a recent covid test regardless of vaccine status. | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

I just read several posts by Canadians on the Expats in Mexico FB page stating that their Mexican vaccine certificates were accepted in Canada with no translation required because 1) it is an official government document and 2) it is already translated to English. | -------------------Re: POSTSCRIPT

I flew on Alaska Air to California in August. Your results may (and probably will!) vary. I left from ZLO. I got the antigen nose swab test before my flight that day. Results took 30 minutes, 450 pesos. I filled out a short questionnaire at the lab there. I was also asked to fill out another health questionnaire in the airport at a separate table that was set up. I brought both these documents to the ticketing agent who looked at the test result form and handed it back to me. I checked my bag to LA, which was not my final destination but I had to overnight there. On arrival in LAX I went through a busy immigration line. I wasn't asked for any Covid related documents. The agent asked me if I had been exposed to the virus. I didn't go through customs which I thought was strange. The next day I took my short flight to my final Ca destination. Return trip - I was told I needed to have a Covid test so got one the day before my flight at a kiosk set up at Oakland airport. Free, self nose swab. It was convenient for me to get it at this location, although I was flying out of SFO the next day. I easily set up my appt online. I read on the Alaska website, and was told by the Alaska agent at the gate in SFO, that I would need to complete a health questionnaire for my arrival in Puerto Vallarta. This form was available by code on my iPhone, and after several attempts I completed it. My flight was an unusual direct flight from SFO to PVR. I was not asked at any time by anyone to produce either results of my test, or the health questionnaire. As Kurt Vonnegut wrote, "Go figure". That's my story for what it's worth. | -------------------Re: Recent trip US

I didn't know Kurt Vonnegut wrote that. "That's my story for what it's worth." Its worth a lot. I feel like I just read some news that is actually worth reading and OMG, is actually true! | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

Has anyone actually tried this and been successful? I just tried both--actually the same webpage--but neither got me the QR code. I'm trying to copy my CURP from the green and white paper, and it's very difficult to tell the difference between numbers and letters! My CURP papers, of course, are in La Manz, not here in el norte. So I guess my question is two-fold: 1. Has anyone been successful using mivacuna.salud.gob.mx? and 2. How can I look up my CURP? | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

I tried three times to get my CURP. It keeps saying the data is incorrect. My birthday is incorrect??? The other option is to send an email to some official explaining the situation including my birth certificate and other official documents. I even said I wasn't a robot!!!! Maybe I can straighten this out when I get back to Mexico!

I think maybe that website has a problem. I can't get it to work either. Maybe someone else could try and see if they get the same message? I tried all the tricks I could think of like turning off ad blockers and not translating to English, using different browsers, etc. | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

Yes, I was successful using mivacuna site. The only thing is that none of it is in English, as people have been saying, but hopefully the QR code is in both languages. My phone is too old to recognize a QR code. On the mivacuna site there is a box you can check that says 'don't know your curp?' or close to that. Perhaps by checking that box you will get some help. | -------------------Re: Which document is considered our "vaccine passport?"

How long did it take to get your documents? I applied last Friday but have not received the email documents yet(today Tuesday) but when trying to reapply I get a message that an application has already been made. | -------------------
